We understand that cold winter weather can really put a damper on your weekend plans, leading to many of us needing a break from the weekend ‘cozy’ days. As tempting as it may be to jump on a plane and land somewhere that’s 80° and sunny, consider trying a wintery getaway in the northern east coast. There are many locations that are driving distance from NYC that will give you the escape you desire. There are ski resorts for skiers and snowboarders, spas for those looking to relax, mountain resorts for families looking for a mini vacation, and more! Eastwind Hotel and Bar in Windham, NY – 2 Hr. 30 Mins from NYC

Nestled in a scenic hilltop in the Catskills, the Eastwind Hotel and Bar is a great weekend getaway spot for friends, families, and couples! Founded by a group of friends in 2018, the Eastwind Hotel and Bar offers city dwellers a quaint and cozy escape hikers, skiers, and relaxers alike. The location is central to ski trails, hiking and snow shoeing trails, restaurants, and arts and cultural spots.

 

Mohonk Mountain House, New Paltz, NY – 2 Hours from NYC

Located in the heart of the Hudson Valley, the Mohonk Mountain House has become an iconic resort for guests looking to explore the valley. The resort has access to multiple scenic hiking and snowshoeing trails, as well as offering cross country skiing, ice skating, and an indoor pool. Not only do they have a plethora of outdoor activities, but they also offer award winning spa treatments in their on-site spa that also features yoga and fitness classes, and mindful meditation sessions. If you’re looking for somewhere to explore and unwind, make your way up to Mohonk!

 

Kennebunkport Inn, Kennebunkport, ME – 5 hours from NYC

Kennebunkport is a charming town on the coast of Maine that is sure to be a great weekend trip. The Kennebunkport Inn offers the coziest escape during the winter months as it is in the downtown area where you can enjoy quaint shops like the classic Copper Candle, and other boutique shops, including a sports memorabilia store with signed merchandise from prominent New England athletes. The mountain features 121 ski trails and 20 lifts and at the base, is the Jackson Gore Inn, a ski-in/ski-out resort that features an indoor pool, hot tubs, a sauna, a restaurant for guests and a lodge for skiers to warm up between runs. This mountain is one of the best in Vermont and is definitely worth the trip.

 

Stowe, VT – 6 Hours from NYC

A world-class mountain resort town nestled beside Vermont’s highest peak. Stowe is an excellent option for a ski resort, especially if you’re interested in other winter activities like snow tubing and ice skating. Don’t forget to bring your pup to this dog-friendly town! For the skiers, Stowe has a wide range of trails for all levels, both for downhill skiers and cross-country skiers. Get on top of Vermont’s greatest views in the famous Stowe Gondola Sky Ride.

Stowe offers fun non-ski related activities such as several breweries, home of the Ben & Jerry Ice Cream factory, free ice skating in the heart of Spruce Peak Village, fine dining, state-of-the art spas, and more. Walk around Stowe’s adorable town, great for families, friends, and couples. For those into theater, catch a show at Spruce Performing Arts Center in the village.

 

The Camelback Resort in The Poconos, PA – 2 Hours from NYC

Head down to the Poconos for a fun adventure this winter. With 39 trails of all levels, experience PA’s biggest snowtubing park at The Camelback Resort. Great for the kiddos, there is an indoor Aquatopia Water Park, incredible indoor and outdoor dining options, and a variety of other activities. For the skiers, hit the slopes that offer plenty of trails to keep you entertained and coming back for more. Other adventures include escape rooms, rock climbing, a ropes course and arcadia arcade!

 

Day Trip to The Catskills, NY – 2 hrs. 45 mins from NYC

If you’re looking for a quick trip, winter in the Catskills is a great destination. Enjoy the beautiful landscape of this region. If you’re interested in skiing, there are many ski mountains including, Hunter Mountain and Windham. The Catskills has a little bit of everything. Enjoy other activities during this trip, including snowshoeing, snowtubing, ice skating, and the cozy downtown area with some cute shops. This is another region that is very pet-friendly, so feel free to even bring them to the Catskills breweries.
